WHAT IS MAP?
Medicine-Assisted Psychotherapy (MAP)
Robina Therapy provides medicine-assisted psychotherapy (MAP), a structured psychotherapy program for suitable adults living with long-term post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or treatment-resistant depression. MAP is delivered under the TGA's Authorised Prescriber Scheme, within a supervised clinical setting and under the care of a psychiatrist.
MAP is not a standalone medication treatment. It is an intensive course of psychotherapy in which prescribed medicine sessions are embedded within a broader therapeutic program, typically delivered over several months and involving three phases:
- Preparation - sessions with your therapist to build trust, understand the process, and prepare for the work ahead.
- Medicine sessions - extended in-clinic sessions supervised throughout by two trained clinicians, with continuous psychological and medical support.
- Integration - follow-up therapy to process the experience and translate insights into lasting change in daily life.
Every treatment plan is individualised. MAP is not suitable for everyone, and outcomes vary between patients. Eligibility is determined through a comprehensive psychiatric assessment, during which your psychiatrist will discuss suitability, potential benefits, and possible risks with you.
